Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game
Shonen Jump Championship 50: More Details Revealed!
Upper Deck Entertainment is excited to celebrate the fiftieth event in the world-renowned SJC Series and the players who have made it possible. Shonen Jump Championship 50 will be held on March 8th–9th, 2008, in Costa Mesa, California, at the Orange County Fair and Exposition Center This event will feature some special additions and prizes, making it more than just your average SJC.
We previously announced that SJC 50 will feature a special extended format, in which the Top 32 players, rather than the usual Top 16, will be invited back on Day Two. Those thirty-two players will Duel in four additional rounds of competition before the Top 8 single-elimination finals. We also announced that SJC 50 will feature a brand new prize card, which will take the place of "Gold Sarcophagus" atop the Dueling world.
These are not the only changes that will make SJC 50 an event to remember. The usual complement of four prize cards will be increased at SJC 50. A total of five copies of the brand new prize card will be awarded. Usually, the winner, the runner-up, the third-place finisher and the top side-events player take home a prize card. For this event only, a fifth prize card is being added to the pool. It will be awarded to the fourth-place finisher, instead of having a consolation match between the third and fourth-place finishers.
But that's not all. Upper Deck will also be providing a total of fifteen copies of past prize cards at this event to top finishers! The winner will receive two copies of each past prize card: one copy of each will be encased inside the championship trophy as the premier display piece in the Dueling world, and an additional playable copy of each of "Cyber-Stein," "Des Volstgalph," "Shrink," "Crush Card Virus," and "Gold Sarcophagus" will be awarded to the champion of this event. Additionally, the second-place finisher will get to choose one card to keep from among those five. After that, the third-place finisher (based upon final Swiss record) will get to choose one of the remaining four cards. The fourth-place finisher will then get to choose one of the remaining three cards. There will then be two past prize cards remaining. Those two will be awarded to the two players who are in the finals of the playoff for Best Side-Events Player. Since the winner of that Duel will be awarded a copy of the new prize card, the runner-up will get his or her choice of the remaining two past prize cards, with the last card going to the Best Side-Events Player!
Additionally, a special Limited Collector's Edition Game Mat is being designed especially for this event. It will feature the artwork of the new prize card. Participants will each receive one of these exciting and rare Game Mats while they last. Supplies are limited, so if you are planning to attend the event, it's important that you don't wait until the last minute to register on site. The mats will be on a first come, first served basis, so get on line early!
More details of this event will be released soon. (Yes, there's actually more!) Stay tuned for all the great information. For more information on the Shonen Jump Championship Series, visit www.yugiohchamps.com.
Sincerely,
Upper Deck Entertainment
